World Series

It must be nice to be a fan of a team that wins.

I've never felt that satisfaction. It's always disappointment. Maybe that's why I'm so pessimistic nowadays. I always look or see the negative in most things. It's not something I necessarily like, but something I have no control over really. I hate to relate real life things with sports, but when you're as big a sports fan as I am it all seems to relate. Teams I'm a fan of and even teams I've been a part of have always had something go wrong. I'm a Purdue, Bears and Cubs fan. That should be enough explanation. Actually, being a Cubs fan should be enough. Anyway, I just want to be able to feel whatever it is that fans of winning teams feel. I'm not talking about Laker fans or Angel fans or anyone else who is a bandwagon fan of teams who win. I'm talking about the Boston/New England, Philly, St Louis, Indy, Green Bay...fans like that who wait and wait and finally get it done. Being a fan of the teams I am, you just come to expect failure. It's sad, but true...I should write a song called that...but that's just the reality. Maybe I'm making too much of this but I don't think so.
On another note...I just found a place that sells Whatchamacallits by the case...Best place ever!

Same 'ol Cubs!

Well Eddie Vedder once said..."some day we'll go all the way" speaking of the Cubs. Really? Will they? Don't think so. The best team in the entire National League and 2nd best team in all of baseball is now down 2-0 to the Dodgers. They freakin' Dodgers. The team that led the NL in runs scored and on base % and walks...they've scored 5 runs in 2 games! half of those in a meaningless 9th inning in a game 2 10-3 loss. Look, I don't believe in curses or any of that nonsense, but there HAS to be something going on. Tonight the Cubs made 4 errors by all 4 infielders! Ramirez, Theriot, DeRosa and Lee are 4 of the most sure-handed guys in the league and they all botched routine grounders! Seriously? This shit just doesn't happen to regular teams. Zambrano pitched a pretty spectacular game...if not for the errors; in fact Theriot should have had 2 but they ruled it a hit...I expected us not to hit and the possibility of Big Z having a bad game, but to not be able to field? I mean c'mon....it's always something. ALWAYS!!! Last night it's Dempster walking 7! and tonight we make 4 errors....
If Lou keeps Fukudome in the lineup for game 3 there's something seriously wrong. The guy has looked absolutely terrible the last 2 months of the season and even worse in these first 2 NLDS games. 2 called strike 3 looking tonight. Unacceptable. I want to see DeRosa in right and Fontenot(yes) at 2nd base....
On another note...it's not unexpected from Cubs fans to see this happen. We shut down every post-season. It's baffling how they lose their ability to hit anything when the 1st of October comes around. Anyway...WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR!!!!

"the cubs are like boys going to prom expecting to get laid...but alas..."

We've seen this before...

Well what's new.  Best record in the National League.  Home field advantage throughout the NL playoffs.  Solid pitching.  Solid hitting.  Solid D.  Solid coaching.  So why wouldn't you go out and lose game one to the LA Dodgers 7-2 and look pathetic while doing so.  It's just something Cubs' fans have come to expect.  It's hopeless optimism followed close behind by realistic pessimism.  Wrigley was as quiet as ever on Wednesday night.  Cubs fans knew what was happening.  Ryan Dempster hadn't walked more than 3 batters in a game all year.  He went 14-3 at Wrigley.  So nobody was surprised when he lasted only 4 1/3 and walked 7!  Yes 7 batters.  The Dodgers, who couldn't score runs all year long even with Manny, were having their way with Dempster and the Cubs.  Losing game one is devastating for the home team.  I almost think it's better to start on the road, especially for the Cubs.  If you start on the road you don't have all the pressure of everyone thinking that you must win and have to win.  Also, if you happen to "steal" one on the road then you get to come home with a chance to close out the series.  We'll see what happens but it doesn't look good for the Cubs.  Zambrano on the mound tonight and I'm afraid we're going to see the bad Z.  He's gonna go out and try to do too much and get emotional.  The Cubs hitters are gonna be pressing also, and that leads to swinging and missing more times than not.  The only hope is that the Dodgers counter with Chad Billingsley who hasn't been very good the last few starts of the year giving up a lot of runs.  If the Cubs lose tonight they'll get swept in the 1st round for the 2nd season in a row by an NL West team.  If they win then we should have an exciting series the rest of the way, probably going all 5 games.  I'm not entirely optimistic about tonight's game, but I'm hoping for the best....

Some more Random toughts...

700 billion $'s...WOW!  Look, I'm all for helping the economy just as much as the next person.  It's tough for everyone right now; well, almost everyone.  The banks and mortgage companies screwed up and were reckless.  I know if I screw up and am reckless nobody comes to bail me out so why should I help bail out these screwtards?  There's gotta be better way.  I wonder if these companies have tried having car washes on the weekends?  I did that back in '96 for student council and we cleared $500 easy in one day.  If each bank has one of these each weekend for a year we're lookin' at at least a couple million....Just sayin'

I live in L.A and this week the Dodgers play the Cubs.  I'm also a Cubs fan and in the last 3 days If I'd had a nickel for everyone who said "go Cubs" to me I'd have at least $4.  It's amazing how any Cubs fans there are everywhere.  It's understandable that I've gotten so many salutes because I'm sure half of the "dodger" fans don't even know their team is in the playoffs.  In fact, I wonder how many even know they moved from Brooklyn...GO CUBS!!

I think Sarah Palin is by far the most under-qualified person to ever run for any office ever!  But she is smokin' hot!

In other news, I just picked up my 4th sponsor in guitar hero, legends of rock, medium level.  No big deal...I leave for my Japan tour later tonight.

Of course the weekend I want to go camping it's supposed to rain.  Hasn't rained in Southern CA in 4 months so why not?  Funny thing is the last time I went camping it rained, no poured, for 3 full days in Phoenix.  It hadn't rained in Phoenix for 183 days before I got there.  I'm like Pigpen from Charlie Brown only with a rain cloud over me instead of dirt.

Have I mentioned how I'm nearly 100% sure that White Sox catcher A.J. Piersynski (sp?) is gay?  You know how I know you're gay? You dye your dumb ass hair bleach blonde and whine about everything.  You know how else I know you're gay?  He used to use the same restroom s Larry Craig...'nough said!

Filled up at $3.49 today...that's pretty good right?  I thought so.  When I moved to CA gas was $.89/gallon...in '02.  Goodness how times have changed...

Winerschnitzel came out with a new foot long chili cheese dog...I'll let you know on Monday how it is!!  Hip hip Hooray!!

Ostrich...that's not a burger, it's a bird!

Good Times...

So I fly all the way back to Chicago (from LA) for a Cubs game this weekend against the Cardinals only to see the absolute worst game of the season. St Louis scored 5 in the first and another in the 2nd. It was 9-0 before I even finished my 1st Old Style and I had to leave to take a "calm me down" walk after the 3rd batter of the game (Pujols). Lou pulled all the starters after the 4th so from then on it was like watching the Cubs in Mesa in March. Awesome! Ended up losing 12-6...and as of today, Sept 23, their only loss in a week. That's what I bring to the Cubs...bad luck! So, I'm making my pledge now to stay away from all post-season games! The Cubs have a great chance to come out here to LA and play the Dodgers...I will not be there. In fact, I may fly to Chicago to be as far away from them as I can...
On another note....The Cubs clinched on Saturday and there was nothing better than seeing the team on the field celebrating with the fans who wouldn't leave and just kept singing "Go Cubs Go." Big Z pouring champagne into a fans mouth in the first row (was he even 21?), DeRosa dumping Bud Light over Fukudome...just a grand scene all around! We'll see what happens the last week of the season. So far so good. No hangover on Sunday and then Marquis has the game of his life on Monday keeping the Mets in another collapse situation. Also, who could have asked for a better weekend in Chicago and Purdue...Good time & Great friends!! A big thanks to all of those who made the effort to hang out even if just for a little while. I had a blast...even though Harry's wasn't in the picture! Seriously though, good shit!!!! We need to do it again soon. In the meantime...Go Cubs!! Da Bears!! Boiler up!! BYE!!

Brett Favre

So it was "reported" today that Brett Favre's family is pushing him to come out of retirement...BIG SHOCK!! I'm just surprised it took this long...Evidently he has already spoken to the Packers. ESPN just had breaking news: "The Green Bay Packers' reaction to this was that they have no reaction." That's honest to God what the guy on ESPNews just said!! If you've read my previous post about the NBA draft and how much useless "breaking news" or "reports" ESPN provides these days it shouldn't come as a shock that the reported no news coming out of Green Bay...That station better be careful or they are gonna end up like MTV. Remember when MTV used to be good and play actual music videos and game shows like "Remote Control?" Then they slowly got away from all that and are now a useless station. I love ESPN more than most things, but when they keep reporting breaking news that there is no news that's when I start to question my love...

On another note...I purchased a bright red Mazda Miata today with a matching fanny pack. Pretty soon I'll have my walker and clapper and begin eating dinner at 3 in the afternoon after playing bingo down at the Moose!

Thoughts....

*Does anyone really care that Floyd Landis lost his Tour de France title today in court? Does anyone even remember who Floyd Landis was?

*It pains me to do so, but...I take back all the negative things I said about the Chicago White Sox last week...

*Just once I'd like to work and actually get paid for it!

*Manny Ramirez got into a one-sided shoving match over the weekend with the traveling secretary for the Red Sox...Really? An argument with the traveling secretary? All because he thought that getting you 16 tickets for friends might not be possible...on the road in Houston. This isn't "Manny being Manny," this is Manny being Asshole.

* !!Viva Espana!!

*Congrats to the Angels and Dodgers who put all SoCal baseball fans to sleep this weekend with their 2 1-0 games! And a special "here's to you" to the dumbass Angels who managed to lose while throwing a no-hitter! Cheers!

*Too bad for the almighty O.J. Mayo...The kid basketball people have been talking about since he was like 13 yrs old. Supposed to be the #1 pick in the NBA Draft, the next great one...too bad the NBA came out with the 19 yr old rule and that 2 guys named D.Rose and M. Beasley came along in the meantime. They get drafted ahead of him and get to go to Chicago and Miami, while poor O.J. has to suffer in Memphis...albeit suffer with $35 million...

*Cheers to the NFL off season. If it wasn't for that a lot of cops would be jobless...

On another note...a giant cheers to one of my buddies who turned 30 this week and in doing so, also got engaged!! Congrats to you, you know who you are!!!! I'd also like to say that I'm not agreeing to the pact...Oh, and I'd like to announce that I failed to make the Olympic javelin team. They drug tested and found that I was too high on life!!!

NBA Draft

Is it really necessary for ESPN to have a 2 hour Draft special everyday? I mean, they have been televising this Draft special show for 2 hours a day for the past week or two telling us what might happen! I don't need to know that Miami might or might not take Michael Beasley with the #2 pick. That's why I watch the draft! It's getting to the point where the leagues (NFL & NBA) don't even need to televise the draft anymore. There is soooo much saturation of information for the 2 weeks leading up to these drafts that there's no reason to watch. I don't need to hear that Memphis is leaning toward one player but has 3 others in mind and is undecided whether or not to trade down or not...That doesn't tell me ANYTHING!!! Of course they have a player or 2 in mind and have a backup plan! That's common sense and doesn't need to be reported on a 2 hour Draft Special Edition! I also don't need to see on the "bottom line" that the Chicago Bulls have reached contract agreement with Derrick Rose the day before the draft takes place. That is why the draft is televised!! It's really getting o.o.c (out of control). And now everyone has to put together their "mock" drafts and they name them Mock 6.0, 6.1 etc....And they update them daily. It seems like ESPN and these other sports news companies are just looking for ways to hire their friends and pay them decent $ to be draft "experts." "Uh, hey Pete you need a job right? Well, put together a mock draft and tell a little about each player and we'll put it on our website and call it Pete's Mock 1.4." It's really fascinating how much useless and redundant information is being reported these days. With all of it coming at you it almost makes the drafts an afterthought now.

On another note...After sweeping and completely dominating the 1st place White Sox over the weekend the Cubs go and shit the bed against the cellar dwelling Orioles. I mean, I know their 14 game home win streak had to end sometime, but to the Orioles? C'mon. Of course it would be the Orioles since the Cubs talked all spring training about getting Brian Roberts (3-5, 2R, 1 RBI) and after Ryan Dempster and Kevin Millar (Millaaa) went back and forth trading jabs. Look for them to come out strong tonight; I guess 2 out of 3 aint bad...
Finally, theres a good chance that after this weekend I'll be a member of the U.S. Olympic javelin team. I'm the 2nd alternate and the 1st alternate got hit in the head with a shot put the other day in practice while getting out of the way from a flying javelin. Soooo, barring a miracle recovery from him I should be good to go!!

Wow. What else can you say about what Shaq and Don Imus said yesterday.

Good times Shaq...
I've been a Shaq fan since he was at LSU and lost to IU in the NCAA tournament. I love his personality, I think he's a great interview and he's good. I took his side in the whole feud with Kobe when they were with the Lakers. In fact, that's a big reason why I am a Kobe/Laker "hater" today. In case you haven't heard or seen the video (it's in the blog in case you missed it!) Shaq got onstage at a NY nightclub last night and freestyle rapped about topics such as Kareem, Hakeem the Dream and, of course Kobe. Again, I like to hear Shaq talk and say what he says, but there comes a time when you just gotta let it go and shut it! He raps about how Kobe needs him and can't win a championship without him. True points. Then he has to add "Kobe, how does my ass taste?" Really? You had to go there? Now, Shaq claims it was all in fun, that they used to do it all the time in the locker room back and forth, battle rhyming so to speak. There's no "battle" to it when it's just you onstage and no other rapper! So when he says "all in fun" I don't think that's entirely true. When you insenuate that someone has tasted your ass and they aren't there to spit something back at you then that's just disrespecting the person. I'm not here to defend Kobe believe me and I think it's hilarious that Shaq could care less what people think, but to taste your ass? A little much...

Now we turn our attention to Don Imus...obviously a guy who doesn't get it. We heard of him a little over a year ago whe he called the Rutgers girls basketball team "nappy headed ho's." Got fired then rehired, apologized and moved on. That caused quite a stir among minorities and also threw up red flags to everyone who may not have heard of Imus that this guy is racist. That's a totally understandable reaction if it was the first time you ever heard about him. He since then has been flying a bit under the radar...until yesterday. On his radio show the topic of Adam "Pacman" Jones came up. Now I don't listen to him so I don't know how the topic came up. But, it did and he asked his co-host "what color is he?" Of course he answered, "african-american," and Imus comes back with, "of course he is." Now he's back in the headlines for being racist again and basically saying that all african americans get in trouble with the law. He claims that it was all sacrcastic and was even, in a way, on Pacman's side saying that African-Americans get wrongly arrested all the time just because they are black. Ok, so maybe he was making that point, like I said I didn't hear the entire segment and don't know how it started or where it went. But the point is, when you already have a reputation like he does from 2 years ago why would you even come close to that subject again? It just doesn't make sense. Just talk about what an idiot Pacman is and leave it. No reason to bring his color or race into it! You know that minority groups are watching/listening to you with huge dumbo sized ears waiting for you to slip up again. It doesn't look like he's going to be disciplined or fined or anything, but this surely isn't just going to blow over. He's managed to get himself back in the headlines though...good job!

There comes a time when certain people need to just shut it and move on...

On another note...
What a weekend in Chicago, if you're a Cubs fan that is!! Just complete domination of their cross town "rivals." They completely outplayed them in all aspects of the game. After listening to the White Sox announcers in game 1 on Friday go on and on about how the Cubs can't play their style of ball (Sox were up 3-1 at the time) they go on to win on 2 hr's and then erupted for 9 runs in one inning on Saturday and cruised the rest of the series. Awesome!
Also, is there anything better than going to a wedding and hearing the groom give a drunken speech about his bride? Again, Awesome!
Tonight...Cubs 9 Orioles 2

Windy City Showdown??

I thought the Cubs and White Sox were supposed to play this weekend. I've yet to see another MLB team on the field other than the Cubs thus far...

So the Cubs have taken the first 2 games against the cross-town White Sox this weekend. Let's recap...

Game 1: First, the game was on WGN TV, great. But it was broadcast through the White Sox so I had to torture myself listening to "Hawk" Harelson and Daren Jackson...THE worst television announcers in all of sports. Their 2 "catch phrases" if you want to call them that; "you can put it on the board...yes!" (homerun call) and "he gone!" everytime a player from the opposing team strikes out. It's like they hopped on a short bus destined for a special learning center and asked the kid with the helmet on what he thought they should say on air over national television. I'd rather slide down a razor blade slide into a pool of fresh lemon juice than listen to those two attempt to talk baseball. Which is exactly what I did. I then sat in the pool and watched the game on mute. I did catch one thing they said before I muted the TV. I believe after the White Sox's 2nd homerun of the day Hawk Harelson said, "if you want to slug with us good luck!" Well the Cubs did just that, in particular Aramis Ramirez. He went ahead and "slugged" 2 homeruns the 2nd of which came tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th...Cubs Win! Put that on the board bitches! They gone!

Game 2: Well we got to revisit Hawk Harelson's quote about getting into a slugfest with the almighty White Sox. The Cubs calmly scored 9 runs in the 4th inning hitting 4 homeruns including back to back shots by Jim Edmonds and Mike Fontenot (or is it Fonteyes?). Ramirez went ahead and hit another 3 run shot and then Edmonds came up in the same inning and hit another homerun joining Mark Bellhorn (on my alltime fav Cubs list) and Sammy Sosa as the only Cubs in history to hit 2 HR's in one inning. The Sox never presented a challenge after that and Cubs win 11-7. You can put that on the board again bitches!! They gone...again!!

On another note....I don't mean to talk so negatively about the White Sox and their announcers, it's strictly for entertainment purposes onl.....who am I kidding? I can't stand them!! They suck, their park is horrible and their announcers are worse than that! And I won't even start about their fans! Go Cubs!!

I'm gone!!

New Song

I love bananas and bananas love me,
They make feel good and they make me feel free.
If I could have bananas every day of the week,
I'd eat them before I played hide and go seek.

Oh bananas are the best thing in the big great earth,
I've been munchin' on 'em since my momma gave birth.
If you like bananas just as much as I do...
Then give me a call and we'll have a few!!

Windy City Showdown

Hide the women and children...It's CUBS vs sox this weekend at Wrigley Field. This could get ugly. When was the last time these 2 teams met when both were in 1st place? The sox are on a roll right now ever since their idiot of a manager threw his public tirade about making changes and playing some f*#&ing ball. Look, these two teams hate each other whether they let it show or not. How can you like a team who plays on the south side, almost all wear some sort of stupid goatee and all look like they could very well have down syndrome, play in one of the worst parks in all of baseball and have the 2 worst TV announcers in history? C'mon already. And even worse than the 2 teams not liking each other the fans are on a whole 'nother level. Don't get me wrong, their not dodger/giant level insane, nobody's gonna get shot, but I would have 3/4 of the Chicago PD in riot gear just in case. It should be fun, it always is. At least it's in Wrigley, because lord only knows how bad the Cubs are away from home. 1st pitch @ 1:20pm on WGN...Be there or be square! Ha! Cubs 8 white sox 1

Boston Three Party

As in "Big 3" that is. What an exclamation point to put on the end of the NBA season. Has there ever been a more dominating performance in an NBA finals game? I mean besides Jordan's Bulls in '98 against the Jazz, but c'mon it was Michael...Total destruction to a Laker team that everyone thought would take this series. I love offense as much as anyone but this series proves that defense does in fact win championships. I wasn't able to watch the first half but when I finally turned it on with about 8 minutes left in the 3rd I was shocked to see the Celtics up by 30!! An unbelievable performance from Boston. And here's to Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and KG. These 3 superstars put aside all their egos and just played some ball. All season long you never heard any of them complain about not getting shots or this or that. It's refreshing to see three players of their caliber do that for the good of the team and their city. Congrats Boston. I'm not gonna say I told ya so, but... "I told ya so; Boston in 6!"

I mentioned how unselfish the "big 3" from Boston were all season. That's what championship teams do, they stick up for one another and root each other on. They leave their superstar egos at the door, strap it up and get at it. I seemed to notice a certain #24 tonight all but pack it in when it was obvious the game was out of reach. You can at least act like you're trying. He looked completely uninterested in being on the floor, and I can't say I blame him as it was quite embarrasing, but when you're the leader of your team and trying to be compared to Michael you need to step your game up and show some balls. I don't care if you're winning or losing by 30. He was acting like he didn't even want the ball. It's like in his mind he was saying, "I don't even have the ball this can't be MY fault!" I can't wait to see what he says this summer!

On another note...
*To Michelle Tafoya; when Kevin Garnett cannot talk or make sense AT ALL, please just ask him one question and move on! It was painful listening to that interview after the game. He was mumbling something then kept pulling his hat over his nose and then cried like a baby and then actually composed himself to say something. Please, in the future, just end it and move on to someone who can speak!

*Is it just me or has the Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich gotten smaller? I haven't had one in maybe a year or 2 but the one I had today sure seemed about 1/3 of the size as they used to.

*I'd just like to say that if anyone is looking for Ray Allen's son, I have him.

*Finally, I'm happy for the Celtics and all, especially doing what they did against the Lakers (ya think we'll see any more of those damn car window flag things?) but enough is enough already for the Boston/New England area...The Red Sox, Patriots and now the Celtics. All I ask is ONE championship for Chicago. For Pete's sake it's been 100 years for the Cubs and 23 years for the Bears. I'm asking you, Boston, if I sleep with you can please chill out for a few years? Thanks!

What a Weekend!!

So I just finished watching the U.S. Open golf tournament...on Monday! What a spectacular tournament it was. It just may have been the best golf tournament I've ever watched, except for the Junior PGA Tour Peru Invitational in 1993 in which I won by 2 strokes in the 13-14 age group! The tournament started on Thursday with a group of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott the #'s 1,2 & 3 players in the world! We got to see these guys play together for 2 rounds. Awesome! Then you had Tiger being Tiger. The guy hasn't played for 2 months after having a 3rd surgery on his left knee. So he promptly comes out and makes shot after shot on Saturday and Sunday to keep himself at the top of the leaderboard. Speaking of the leaderboard, you had guys up there from Westwood to Olgilvy to Mediate to Woods, it was unbelievable and nobody was ever more than 3 under! A perfect tournament. And to put icing on the cake you had Rocco Mediate, 168th in the world rankings and needed to win a qualifying tournament just to play in the Open leading after 71 holes! Of course Tiger calmly sinks his put on the 72nd hole to force an 18 hole playoff. Then after 90 holes of golf these two guys were still tied...so on to sudden death. Of course Tiger wasn't going to get beat in sudden death, he never does. But it took 91 holes of unbelievable golf from these 2 to decide it. Super! And hats off to Rock (as Tiger calls him) for his attitude toward the entire weekend. He was so happy to be there and be in the position he was you couldn't help but root for the guy. Just a great weekend in San Diego.

On another note...Giant hats off to all the fathers. I know I am who I am today all because of my parents and especially my Dad. He taught me everything from how to throw a curveball to how to handle the ones life throws at me; and believe me it seems like every pitch right now! So here's to you Dad for always being there with support and words of advice and most of all making me proud to be your son. . . Thanks.

I Suck AND Swallow!!

That's what Dick Bavetta did on Sunday night in game 5 of the NBA Finals. This guy was the absolute worst official in a crucial sports game ever! He stood under the basket and just watched as Celtic after Celtic got fouled and kept swallowing his whistle every time. The guy didn't make one decent call all night long...I wonder if it had anything to do with his name being brought up last week in the Tim Doneghy investigation. Interesting that the same thing he did on Sunday night he was accused of doing in 2002 and 2005 in crucial games. I'm not here to bash Bavetta, I've actually been a fan of his for some time. I just find it ironic that the same guy mentioned in game fixing/altering in the past few years didn't make one call in this game last night; the first game he's officiated after his name was mentioned. Maybe he didn't do anything back then, maybe he did, but bottom line is this guy completely blew it on Sunday. The NBA actually considered not giving him the game because of his being mentioned in the investigation but decided against it as that would have just led to more speculation...It's all good though as now the Celtics can win it in front of their own fans on Tuesday.

On another note...can someone tell Pau Gasol to shave. If you can't grow a beard don't try!!! Also, I'm gonna come out with a line of hair restraints/bands that girls can use to hold their hair out of their eyes and call them Sashas. They'll be pretty colors and maybe even get deals with major sports leagues so women can support their favorite teams. My hope is that Pau and Sasha head to the same barber and take care of business.

True Professionals

It's amazing that in the span of a week the nation lost 2 of the truly great jounalists of our time, Jim McKay and Tim Russert. Though playing their game in 2 different arenas (sports & politics) they were quite similar in the way they went about their business...and that is with true professionalism and class. They both put their heart and souls into every story they covered and every person they interviewed. You knew when you read or listened to them that you were getting the facts and also that you weren't getting "beat'n around the bush." They were both thought of as THE journalist of their time when talking to others in the same field. Although Jim McKay was all but retired we lost Tim Russert at the top of his game & way too soon. Maybe it'll take the reflecting of their lives so the current and future generation of jounalists can follow in their giant footsteps. Thoughts and prayers to both the families of these great gentlemen...

Go Green!

Well I guess justice prevailed tonight in Los Angeles. Down by 22 in the 1st quarter and by as much as 24 in the 2nd, the Celtics come back to win 97-91 in one of the greatest comebacks in NBA Playoff history. After the 1st quarter the Lakers shot 15! free throws. I thought at that time that this was gonn be one of those games the officials just didn't want Boston to win. But the "big 3" of Garnett, Pierce and Allen wouldn't let it happen. Just an unbelievable performance from those guys. Maybe I won't see so many of those damn stupid window flags flying from everyone's cars the next few days...if you live in the greater L.A. area you know what I'm talkin about. I don't have much else except that I will remind everyone that I called "Boston in 6" before the series started...

On another note...here's to you Jim Edmonds. Just when I thought I hated you, you go and hit a game tying homerun in the bottom of the 9th. The Cubs go on to win in the 11th and all is good in the world. Cheers! Also, If you drink coffee try sprinkling just a tad bit of cinnamon in with your coffee grounds. Adds just enough deliciousnous to make you go "mmmmm..."

short but sweet...

sometimes you just get to thinkin...is this really what i'm supposed to be doin? is this even where i'm supposed to be doing it? if not, then what is it that i'm supposed to do and where? why haven't i figured it out yet? or have i? interesting....

soriano is out 6 weeks or more with a boken hand. should be ok since the cubs went 9-5 with him out of the lineup a couple months ago. look for micah hoffpauir to make a name for himself during this 2 month stretch.

on another note...will publisher's clearinghouse just tell me already if i've won the $10,000,000 super prize?! "someone with the initials 'ps' will win in your area!" really? will they?

Bye!!

Oh What a Night

*Two 45-50 yr old men throwing peanuts at fans.
*A douchebag who is so drunk he's lighting up cigarettes in the stands.
*Another douchebag who is stealing other people's free beach mats from their seats then denying it.
*People throwing peanuts, hotdogs, anything they can find at the opposing teams fans when they finally scored a run in the 9th inning! (Lost 6-1)
*A group of 8 that finally decided to show up in the 8th inning and then were yelling "whats going on? why is everyone clapping?"
It goes on and on and on....
These are just a few of the things that were happening last night at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim game against the Tampa Bay Rays. L.A. Angels of Anaheim...awesome name! Just freakin pick a damn city. Either you want to be from Los Angeles or Anaheim, or you could have made it easy and just been the California Angels! Wow what a concept! That's another story for another day though...
If you've never been to an Angels game do yourself a favor and DON'T GO!! I love baseball more than most people and enjoy going to any game regardless of who is playing. But when you go to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA it's just wrong! They bring out the "rally monkey" in the 1st inning with none on and 2 outs. Very few people pay attention to the game. In fact more people last night were paying attention to the Laker/Celtics game 3 on the monitors in the concession area than to the baseball game being played in front of them. And I'm not even going to get into the incidents that I briefly described above...Bottom line is if you are a true baseball fan please don't ever go to Angel stadium for a game; unless they are playing the Cubs or Red Sox, then the stadium will be full with real baseball fans. And I thought Dodger stadium was bad!

Isn't is shocking that after Phil Jackson complains about officiating after game 2 that the Lakers get to shoot 14 free throws...in the 1st quarter!!! So you're telling me that for 2 games Boston was playing great defense and all of a sudden they foul every time down the court. This just solidifies my mild hatred of the NBA. I don't believe in conspiracy theories or that nonsense that some people talk about but you can't help but think somethin's up when there is desparity like that. I can remember on play in particular where Paul Pierce drove the lane and was fouled (not touchy touch foul, but a hard foul) by both Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant and it dropped him to the floor...no call. Yet, Pierce was in foul trouble the entire game. I just don't see how there can be one set of rules for one game and a totally different set the next...Sure wasn't like that in the good 'ol days. Where's the NCAA Tournament when you need it?

On another note...I had In n Out Burger last night. I've changed my stance on the Southern CA fast food burger chain. Not too bad. I used to give it zero credit what-so-ever but after downing a double-double it was quite delicous...Also, I would like to congratulate Ken Griffey Jr. (aka "KGJ") for hitting his 600th homerun the other night. Quite an accomplishment for someone who has basically missed 2-3 full seasons with injuries. Not to mention he has done all of this without ever being remotely tied to any steroids or HGH investigation. Kudos to you Mr. Griffey. In the words of my good friend Shames I now "have 600 reasons to sleep with you." Finally, Michael Strahan retired from the NFL yesterday...maybe now he'll have time to find some good stop gap for his teeth! Do you think he's who Dr Dre was talking about in his '92 hit "Dre Day" in the line "Gap teeth in ya mouth so my di*k gots to fit!" Just a thought....

I'll Have the Usual...

...This is something Bears running back, or should I say FORMER running back, Cedric Benson must say just a little too often. You see Cedric was cited just over a month ago for operating a boat while intoxicated in Austin, TX. Ok, I can see why a former Texas star would go back to his alma mater to have a good time one weekend during the offseason. Fine. I go back to my alma mater at least once a year and have a great time and I'm not even a professional athlete nor do I own a boat. But, Cedric Benson decided to have another fun weekend in Austin. And again he had too many drinks and decided to operate a vehicle while intoxicated. This time his car. And again he got caught. C'mon dude....You'd think that when you have millions of dollars on the line you would have a sober driver, take a cab, hire a driver or DON'T GO OUT IN AUSTIN!! You're popular enough in that city you could probably just have everyone come to your house...just an idea. Needless to say the Bears cut their losses and waived Benson today. That sure makes getting rid of Thomas Jones 2 yrs ago seem like a brilliant idea! But that's a whole other topic. . . Sure makes you long for the days of Neal Anderson...
On another note...Celtics up 2-0 on the mighty Lakers; Living in L.A. I'm lovin' every minute of it! I believe in a past blog I said the Celtics in 6...we'll see. Also, I tried a Hungry Man meal (TV dinner) tonight for the first time ever; It was surprisingly fantastic! BYE!!

Random Thoughts

Can someone please shut Stephen A. Smith up? Why does he need that middle initial anyway. Is it just to separate him from the the other Stephen Smith's of the world or does it have a meaning? Or is it just there because it makes his name seem more professional or eloquent, such as John F. Kennedy, John C. Riley, George W. Bush or Peter J. Shuey? And why does he constantly have to be so damn brash and outlandish? He practically screams into the camera and comes off as completely arrogant and way too demonstrative. In the words of the great "philosiphiser" Bill Walton..."tone it down big man! tone it down."

The Bellmont Stakes is today in a few hours. Guess I should put my money on Big Brown. He has some kind of robotic hoof today which should just make him faster. It'll be interesting to see how he runs the big track though. He's only run 5 races...sure he's a perfect 5-0 with no real competition but an injury and perhaps fatigue could keep us from seeing the first Triple Crown winner in 20+ years.

Speaking of Triple Crown what the hell is going on in Texas? Has anyone paid attention to Josh Hamilton? The former Devil Ray, crack/cocaine/heroin/alcohol addict, Cincinnati Red (in that order) is putting up huge numbers for the Texas Rangers. This is a guy who was banned from MLB and until last year hadn't played baseball in 3 years! Now he's with TX with incredible numbers....322BA, 17HR, 68RBI's. It's an unbelievable story with this kid. Some people don't like it others love it but you have to respect a guy for finally admitting his faults and doing something about it...

N.E.R.D. and Beck about to come out with new albums in the next few weeks...Hip Hip Hooray!!

Rick Reilly started with ESPN this week after many years with Sports Illustrated. Same brilliant writing different medium. His first article about his father is very moving and should be read by all. ESPN.com

#1 movie candy of all time...a tie between Reese's pieces and Dots...

What was with Paul Pierce the other night? I understand that it probably hurt and he was probably scared more than he's ever been, especially during the NBA Finals...but c'mon dude. He gets carried off (fine) and then wheelchaired (not fine) to the locker room only to come back like 2 min later and start bombing trey balls! It was like Curt Schilling and his ketchup packet in the sock trick a few years back. To make it even worse announcers and writers started comparisons with Willis Reed! Willis Reed completely tore a muscle in his thigh! He was playing on one leg! Not quite what happened to Pierce on Thursday.

And why do we have to drag the finals out soooooooooooo loooooooooong? The first 3 rounds had exactly 1 day between games. Then the Lakers and Celtics were done by May 30! They didn't start until June 5! And now we get 2-3 days between every game and the games start at 9:05 EST! I'm on the west coast so it doesn't bother me (except the fact that every Joe Laker fan has their retarded Laker flag flying from their car window, as their on their bluetooth, not paying attention to the road, sitting in traffic) but for everyone else in the country you've got to stay up til 11:30 to watch this stuff. I'm not even an NBA fan and it bothers me...

On another note...just found out that the "palm" tree in my backyard is in fact a banana tree as I first thought last year. It just took a year for the bananas to show up! I also would like to thank my good friend Reggie for his donation of a new dryer to accompany my new washer. No more laundromat!! And finally, my blog may be moving soon; we'll see. I don't want to jinx anything just yet. I'll keep you posted, but in the meantime keep checking in here and clicking the ads on the right of the page...Those are what keeps me going and hopefully get me to my next space! Thank you all....BYE!!!

Sex and the City

So "Sex and the City" the movie came out this past weekend...Oh my gosh! I can't believe it! It's to die for! Sooo fantastic! These are just a few of the phrases that I heard non-stop on Friday and Monday morning on all the morning shows on the television. Well, I for one cannot and will not ever be able to write a review on it. I will never see this thing. I'm boycotting it just like I did "Titantic." The ONLY way it is ok for a straight man to see this movie is if he is in a new relationship and trying to impress his lady friend. Under no circumstances should an avg Joe who is in a committed relationship go and see this. It's that simple. It is ok for you to go with your wife/girlfriend to the theatre so long as you just mosey on over to a different movie. This brings me to my next point...
I guess since this "movie" came out someone did a study that concluded females today would be more likely to flirt with a guy driving a Toyota Prius than some kind of sportscar or SUV...I guess because that means they're not "green." The study actually said that 9/10 beautiful, delicious ladies would do this! Are you kidding me?!? Who conducted this survey? My guess is it was 18-24 yr old girls from southern California...or hippies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a guy who tries to impress with cars or other material things; I think my beard is impressive enough! Only kidding....seriously though, I have real life proof that this is not the case...
It was late '02 or early '03 and I was living in Newport Beach. My roommate (we'll call him "David") and some friends of ours were having some cocktails at Dennis Rodman's bar in Newport Beach, "Josh Slocums." We're inside having a good 'ol time when I see this nice lady that I met a few months before. We had talked a couple times but nothing ever materialized. Anyway, so I see her in the bar and we're just hanging out having a good time; I'm doin the robot and she's lovin' it. We even busted out the electric slide! So it gets to be time to leave and we're outside waiting on my buddy (we'll call him "Ward") to pull my car around why I was trying to convince her to come back to our place to watch "Dumb and Dumber." She decided it was in her best interest to say yes and "Ward" came around with the car. I remember the words like it was yesterday..."A Taurus? You drive a f*&$#ng Taurus!!?? Uh, no thanks..." Now I know a Taurus isn't a Prius and we weren't concerned with going green back then but you get the point. It was even the LX edition with my portable CD player running through the cassette deck! How could anyone say No to that? So I did what any normal guy would do at 2AM..."Ward" I'll see you guys back home"...and we hopped in a cab. Then I traded in my Taurus a month later. Point being; Chicks don't look at guys or flirt with them or go home with them if they are driving a lame-o car.

On another note...I'm at the gym today and was fortunate to see not 1, but 2 men wearing spandex shorts. Awesome!
Oh, and I tried that new southern chicken sandwich from McDonald's...fantastic! Still need to get the breakfast one down...
Is it ok for a man to use body wash? I know they make them for men nowadays but it seems if you use it you also have to use a loufa (sp?). I'm not sure I'm comfortable using one of those. Opinions please!
I think that's it for today...Cubs and Padres tied at 1 in the 6th, going for 10 straight. They're headed up this was tomorrow!
And congrats to the Detroit Red Wings on winning the Stanley Cup. Hey Pittsburgh, it's almost football season...
Bye!!

03 June, 2008

I thought I'd let everyone get a glimpse of a small slice that is the sandwich of my day. Thought I'd liven it up a bit with some video. I hope you enjoy.
On another note...what's an NBA coach gotta do to get some love. Flip Saunders was 174-76 at Detroit during his 3 seasons and went to the Eastern Finals each of those seasons...his reward? A pink slip! Yep, Fired! Unbelievable...Oh and the Cubs won their 9th straight game tonight. That's all I got...BYE!

T-Bone!!

1) Is there anything better than RC Cola?

2) Is there anything better than Salt Water Taffy?

I'm sitting here watching the Stanley Cup Finals game 5 between the Red Wings and Penguins. I'll admit, it's the first hockey game I've watched all year (although I am flipping between it and the '08 Motor City Bowl replay on Big Ten Network) and it's quite exciting. I'm pleasantly surprised. The goaltending in this game is amazing and it's in the 2nd overtime (I'll give an update if it ends during this blog). I'm hoping it gets to go to a shootout. Come to think of it do they even shoot it out in the playoffs? Shows just how much I know...Regardless, I think that's one of the most exciting moments in sports.
You know what else is exciting? Watching the Cubs win...and they've done it 7 straight times and are leading 6-3 in the 6th right now in San Diego.
Speaking of the Cubs, Sammy Sosa recently said he is going to officially retire after the World Baseball Classic. Good for him. I was a huge Sosa fan during his time in Chicago. I think I started the "sosa-o-meter" in 1998. I think he got a bum rap though toward the end of his career. Sure he left the last game of the year in the 1st inning in his last game with the Cubs. Sure he used a corked bat against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Sure he played salsa music in the clubhouse. But you know what? He also, along with Mark McGwire, brought baseball back to America's televisions in '98 and was as exciting to watch as anyone in my generation. He also has NEVER been in any book, report, memorandum, etc. about steroids. Every other player the general public suspected of doing anything performance enhancing has had their names show up somewhere...Not once have you seen Sosa's name anywhere. . . just a thought.
On another note...Today I tried a new flavor of Nutri-grain cereal bars, Raspberry. And I now have a new #1 flavor of Nutri-grain. Tomorrow I'm thinking of getting a lil crazy and try the mixed berry...Also, I nearly got T-boned at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Highland next to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood...So this week I will be known as "T-Bone!!"
UPDATE: Cubs up 7-3 in the 8th and a 3rd overtime in Detroit!

Super Lotto

So I'm sitting watching TV for about 30 min and I realized that I just watched "America's Most Eligible Bachelor 2000" for the last half hour...Seriously...not realizing what I was doing this was 30 min of my Sunday. If ever I could have 30 min of my life back it was just now. Speaking of Super Lotto I won $1 yesterday. No big deal I guess...
*Cubs went 7-0 on their recent homestand. The last time they had the best record in MLB on June 1st was 1908...coincidence? I don't think so...
*Celtics in 6...please God don't let the Lakers win...
*Oh yeah, Cubs embark on their West Coast swing this week...Super Excited!
On another note...Former Purdue basketball player Scott Martin decided to transfer about a month ago. He stated that he wanted to be closer to his hometown of Valparaiso, IN which is 1 hr from Purdue...His choices were Butler (2 hrs away), IU (3 hrs away) and Notre Dame (1 hr). I could live with Butler; nice school, Hinkle Fieldhouse, don't play Purdue. I could even live with IU; shit school, dumb fans, he would have many well received trips back to play Purdue. But Mr. Martin chose Notre Dame...and for one reason; Selfishness. He said he wanted to play for a coach who would let him showcase his skills. This coming from a true freshman who got 25 min a game for a NCAA tournament team. The only problem is with Purdue he wasn't the go-to guy. He was a 4th or 5th option. See, he came to Purdue from Valpo with his high school teammate Robbie Hummel. Martin was the higher thought of recruit of the 2. Well, Hummel became a household name during the season and through the NCAA tourney. I don't think Martin was too happy about this and wanted out. So I say good riddance Scott. Notre Dame is the perfect place for selfish A-holes who play swords in the same men's restroom where Brady Quinn is the all time champ. Have fun and good luck!

SHAMES!!

I want to congratulate and thank a Mr. Shames Khan for making his donation to the Save the Ozarks Fund. It's good people like this who make this world a better place to live. Shames is truly a sincere and sweet individual and his contributions are most appreciated. Now, if everyone follows Shame's lead we will in fact "Save the Ozarks!" Thanks again Shames...much love! xoxo

On another note...the Lakers won last night to send their sorry asses to the NBA finals. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I'm positive the NBA didn't want the Spurs to get there again. I'm also sure that Boston will win the east and we'll have a Boston/L.A. finals...just like the old days. The NBA will get it's ratings and ESPNclassic will air all of those fantastic Bird/Magic matchups from the good 'ol days. Everyone will be happy...as long as Boston wins. Gosh I hate the Lakers...

On yet another note...my good friend Anne is in Austin, TX for a few days. What a terrific place to be! I've been there once before and it went something like this....
******** So, i go to texas for a wedding......and after eating pizza for thanksgiving at the gingerbread man, the hair salon, jackalope, blind pig, seeing chuck chuch the big f*t fu$k, listening to the soothing sounds of Joe Vega!, hanging out with carnival workers ("carnies"), watching byrd play outside the courtyard from 2-4am, walking 12 miles past the ironworks to get to IHOP, eating an ungodly amount of food at IHOP, having valet Garrett randomly show up at IHOP thinking we needed a ride home (in a guests' mini van), holding on for dear life as Garrett proceeded to drive 50mph through the narrowest parking garage i've ever seen, waking up with the biggest headache i've ever had, driving 89.3 miles to Brenham (yes Brenham), going to Bottles and Cans (just clap your hands), witnessing 5 separate fights (3 among girls with one doing her best Bob Knight chair throwing impersonation) and Steve almost playing Mike Tyson's punch out in real life, beating Byrd 3-0 in pool, beating Byrd 2-0 in air hockey (cheated in game 2), beating Byrd 21-17 in ping pong and losing to Byrd in Chutes & Ladders on an el cheapo move (the guy spins a 4 and moves 5 spaces! only to land on the ladder that leads to the winning square! and this chump move in a house of God of all places), going to the actual wedding, making awesome friends with a Budweiser wholesaler named Mike at the reception (he was 63 and drinking straight Crown!), asking the bartender the score of "the game" (ND/USC) and he gives me the score of the Brenham Cubs (yes they are the cubs!) basketball game vs. Giddings, paying $21.95 to watch the last 2 min of the Purdue/Hawai'i game, going to Daddy's or Wing Shop or whatever that place was called (Texas version of BW 3's), watching Grossman throw it up for grabs every fu*&ing play, going back to Blind Pig, watching the Colts try to play football, listening to the soothing sounds of Joe Vega again, eating 1 million pieces of pizza from Haux pizza (the most intimidating pizza place EVER!, witnessing Byrd take an awesome piece of memorabilia off the wall, urinating somewhere that was never intended for urination, ordering cheese fries and a BLT only to get regular fries and no BLT, driving past the No Trespassing sign on the Texas campus, waiting forever for our plane to take off, arriving to LAX seemingly the same time 7.3 million other travelers did, eating Of the Taco......i came home!

Thanks for your support!! BYE!!!

The Price is NOT Right!

When is it ever going to end?
$4.38 for a gallon of gasoline...In other words $83.22 to fill up my truck...which is fine if you don't live in LA and have to drive everywhere, or you are a zillionaire! Or if you are Joe Exxon, Bobby Mobil, Evan Chevron, Theo Shell, Joseph Seventysix or Andre Texaco. I mean where is it going to end? I thought it came to plateau when it hit $4.18 a week ago just before Memorial Day. This happens every year when Gas stations and companies raise prices before typical driving holidays. So I figured $4.18 just before Memorial Day, a $.17 hike from 2 days prior, would be the high point. Not so fast my friend! Just a day after Memorial Day it rose to $4.28 and by the end of that day was at $4.38...which is where we stand right now, at least until around 4pm when they usually change the prices. I'm not sure how much longer we can put up with this. We HAVE to drive...there's only so many home based businesses that I can try! By the way after you read this you should click on the ads on the right side of this page....anyway, not sure what my point is except that soon we will be paying upwards of $6 for 1 gal of freakin gas! I can get a 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $5.99 right now at Ralphs. They should just come out with an engine that runs on beer? HMMM.....
Anyway, it's a slow news day so far so hopefully I'll have better material later...
On another note...I'm gonna go work in the garden and maybe even wash my truck. Maybe I'll even do laundry. I can tell you one thing, I'm not gonna drive anywhere! They didn't get that blue ribbon for nothin'!! Cubs 6 Rockies 3
Bye!!!

Super Tuesday

Need yet another reason IndyCar beats NASCAR? Try $2.98million reasons. That's the winners share of a near $14 million pot. Not bad for a months work.

How about Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano? Bottom 9th, 2 outs, 1 on, Cubs leading 5-4...a routine fly ball to left. Should've ended the game, Cubs win right? Wrong. Bounces off his glove and the Pirates tie the game; Cubs lose in extras. $136 million? Hell, I'll do it for 10 bucks.

Fiesta Hermosa was this weekend. Good times. Great food! Is there anything better than carnival food? Can't wait til the Circus City Festival in July.

Was there any doubt that Joakim Noah smoked weed? I heard he got from the shortbus driver...

Congrats again to Indianapolis for getting the 2011 Super Bowl. Can't wait to watch the Bears in Indy...

Can someone please tell Hillary to step aside...

Isn't it ironic that as soon as they start debating whether instant replay should be in MLB we have about a dozen blown HR calls in the last week...

Horry Kow! Wrigleyville residents are brushing up on their Japanese today; Hiroki Kuroda vs Kosuke Fukudome!

Best place on Earth

Oh! and I almost forgot to mention that Indianapolis has the best place on Earth...Nicky Blaine's!!! oh Nicky Blaine's.....

Snowblowers

Has anyone read Gene Wojciechowski's article on ESPN.com about Indianapolis? If you haven't heard Indy was awarded the Super Bowl in 2011. They nearly got the 2010 game but were edged out by 2 or 4 votes. This is a city that has hosted the most Final Fours of any other city, NBA All-Star games, the NFL combine and not to mention the 1997 Peru Tiger football team against Madison Grant in the Hoosier Dome! Needless to say, the city knows how to host. It is a perfect setting for any major sporting event. You have all the first class restaurants, 5 star hotels, high end shoppping and plenty of waterin' holes. And it has all of this in a very compact space where you can walk or take a short cab ride within a matter of a few blocks. Yet, Gene Wojciechowski would rather the NFL go on strike in 2011 than play a Super Bowl in Indianapolis. He states that it is too cold; that he you're gonna need snowblowers to get around. What a toolbox! The avg temp in Indy in February is around 30, but knowing the midwest it could just as easily be 60! Hey, lets have it in Miami where it's 70 in February...oh wait they did 3 years ago and it poured down rain the entire weekend and cost Da Bears da Super Bowl! I say we take up a collection and buy this A-hole a nice packet of hot chocolate and some ear muffs...just in case.
On another note...Carb day is getting rained out; ruined my tv watching for today. Oh, and I got new pillows; they're just ok. Oh, and I went fishing and caught a 378lb Marlin...I thought it was Miguel Cabrera but then remembered he's in Detroit. Big up's!! Bye!!

Playoffs? You wanna talk about Playoffs!?

Did anyone really give the Spurs a chance last night? Didn't think so, but to be up 20 in the 3rd qtr and only lose by 4 says something. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Spurs fan. I think they're boring and they all flop too much. And don't get me started on Bruce Bowen. But for them to come out and play a first half like they did speaks volumes for the kind of guys they are. Sure, LA won, and overcame a 20 pt deficit, but they were expected to take game 1 at home. All signs pointed to a blowout. The Spurs just finished a 7 game series against the Hornets who are twice the team as anyone the Lakers played in rounds 1 or 2. They also had to sleep on their plane which was grounded on the tarmac in New Orleans! I'm sure they had nicer accomodations than we would stranded on a plane but regardless 12 6-7 ft men sleeping on a plane can't be good for the legs. I look for the Spurs to take this series in 6 games. Maybe I'm a closet San Antonio fan (not a chance) or maybe I just dislike the L.A. Kobe's that much (yes, I do!), but for the Lakers to come out and play like that against a bunch of guys with 1 leg says something.
On another note...I watched the classic movie "Serpico" last night. One word-Fantastic! This was Al Pacino's breakout movie directly after he did the Godfather pt 1. A tremendous film. Also, I used to think Oreos were hands down the best cookie in the world...but Chewy Chips Ahoy are gaining ground very quickly!! Not so fast! Bye!

18 May, 2008

Is there any way that the IRL and Tony George can get Big Brown to enter the Indy 500? I mean what is with this horse? He's like out of some freak show at the local circus. The first two legs of the Triple Crown he's won by an avg of 5 1/2 links! This is a man among boys out there. It's like he's racing a bunch of mini horses. I bet that if they let him race next weekend against the likes of Helio, Danica & the rest of them he would finish in the top 10. Just a thought...

On another note, anyone who thinks that NASCAR is more fun to watch than IndyCar is just plain stupid. There's no other way to put it. First off Indy cars go 80-100 mph faster...that's the obvious reason. And they do it in open wheel cars with no roof or steel cage protecting them if they happen to flip or roll. One little tap from another car sends 'em into the wall. It takes much more skill to negotiate through the pack when you don't have bumpers and fenders. I should know, I've raced Indy before and it was super hard! Second, anyone who watched the last day of qualifying today had to be on the edge of their seat. You had 3 guys going for one spot with $320,000 at stake...and they had to run 4 laps all before the gun went off at 6pm. That's pressure my friends. NASCAR qualifies everyone on one day like 2 or 3 days before each race...no drama, no pressure. Pretty lame if you ask me...Now maybe I'm being a "homer" because I'm from Indiana but I'll bet if any NASCAR fan would take a break from cuttin' the sleeves off their flannels, datin' their cousins and get the cigarette smoke outta their eyes and watch IndyCar on their tv that sits on top of the broken tv, they, too would agree that it's pretty good racin'!!

I'm off to watch a new episode of "Ax Men"...Watch the deer! Bye!

Too bad the Cubs can't play at the Friendly Confines every game. Off to a 7-1 start on the homestand and everybody is coming through. Soriano must be a fan of the Indy 500 since he loves the month of May so much. I'll admit, I was ready to trade him 3 weeks ago when they were winning all those games with him on the DL. Not so fast my friends! And who needs Brian Roberts anymore? I said that from the first I heard the rumor in spring training...DeRosa is just fine and mighty sexy at that! He can play anywhere and will more often than not put the bat on the ball. It's too bad they can't play Pittsburgh every game either...it's like they all go asking for their brown pants when they play the Cubs! Get it, because they shat on themselves....anyway, did anyone go get a free chicken sandwich from McDonald's yesterday? Just curious if they are any good...well, it's $3 PBR night at the Lighthouse guess I'll head down for a few and some great tunes from Buck & the Bang! Everyone have a great weekend and watch out for the sharks! Bye!

Rubbers

Purdue University safety Torri Williams was suspended from the team indefinately by Joe Tiller for yet another run in with the law. He was already in the dog house with Tiller and the 5-0 for drunk driving, driving with a suspended license and for being at the scene when teammate Selwyn Lymon was stabbed by a 4' 11" woman. He was on probation and only had to make it until December without another incident. Well that lasted all of 5 months. He was arrested for shoplifting...from a grocery store...and it wasn't even food! Yes, just when I thought I'd heard it all, a Purdue football player (senior by the way), who is already on real probation with the real police, gets arrested for stealing CONDOMS!!! Yes, CONDOMS. I'm pretty sure that Planned Parenthood gives them away for free right? He must have wanted the super fancy ones that are flavored or colored or ribbed for her pleasure...or maybe he needed the Magnums!! Doubt it...anyone who has to steal them obviously doesn't have big enough juevos to simply buy them or stop by the 'hood! Is this not the most ridiculous thing anyone has EVER been suspended for? How embarassing...BOILER UP!
On another note, I fixed my flat tire. But as I was fixing it my truck fell off the jack and the axle landed on my hand and chopped off 3 of my fingers. I now only have a thumb and pinky on my left hand. Bye!

Trecherous Waters

So I just got back from the beach and man was it interesting. I brought my boogie board hoping to do some innocent wave riding when something happened that will change my life forever. I had just finished 2 totally awesome rides when I paddled out for one last one. To my surprise right in front of me was a freakin shark fin!! I panicked a bit but remembered from the National Geographic Channel that it's best to just stay still and not swim of flail around. Well, this whole standing still thing lasted about 2 seconds when the fin turned and started coming straight toward me! It was probably only 10 or 12 ft away and I was swimming as fast as I possibly could toward shore. In a panic I turned and clinched my fist and popped the great beast straight in the nose! It was then that I realized it was just my friend Jamel wearing a shark fin! Jamel is crazy! Bye!

My Love

I see you there staring at me,
All bubbly and hot.
You smell so fantastic,
I should just take a shot.
But I know what comes next,
You'll just leave me wanting more.
That's why I take it slow,
Until I'm completely sure.
I reach out my hand and grasp for yours,
Who would've thought you were such a whore.
But now I've got you once and for all,
As you touch my lips my heart starts to fall.
And then it happens,
You make me feel free.
Oh how I love YOU,
My cup of coffee!!!!!

Seriously?

Anyone heard about this whole OJ Mayo thing? I mean of course there was some funny business going on the whole time...The guy comes out of nowhere and commits to USC with Tim Floyd telling everyone what a surprise it was to him, saying he didn't even really recruit him. Of course he didn't, a sports management company did! Who just gets up and leaves W VA, goes cross-country, to LA!, to play for a team that didn't really recruit you? Answer, nobody! Unless you are getting fancy shmancy things from 45 year old men trying to profit off of you. And you can't tell me USC and Mr. Floyd didn't know anyhing about it...The main guy involved was at almost every USC home game! C'mon...first Reggie's Bush and now the other OJ....California is stupid!
On another note I just made probably the best ham & cheese omlet in the entire Southern California area...that's real! Do work!

Bye!
